Adoptive father: Stephen Burrell Kerr

Adoptive maternal grandmother: Barbara Reeley
Former foster father: Larry Schoen
Former foster mother: Jodi Schoen
Respite home: Elaine Person and Tom Person
Circumstances of disappearance-
Jaliek disappeared from the home of his adoptive father in the middle of the night (between November 1st and November 2nd). On the morning of November 2nd, 2007 at 7:30 am Jaliek’s adoptive father Stephen keep awake to find a note from Jaliek that said, “Dear everybody, I’m sorry for everything. I won’t be a bother anymore. Goodbye, Jaliek.” Stephen Kerr reported Jaliek missing a t 8:57 am. Jaliek is thought to have had no source of money with him at the time of his disappearance.
Family history-
At the time of his disappearance Jaliek was living with his adoptive parents- Stephen Kerr and his wife Jocelyn McDonald. He had been living with them for the previous five years before he vanished. Before he lived with them he had lived in six different foster homes. Stephen Kerr stated that Jaliek’s siblings were scared of him because of his violent emotional outbursts. Jaliek’s former foster parents Larry and Jodi Schoen did confirm that he does have emotional outbursts.
Jalieks adoptive family led a non-traditional life style at the time of his disappearance. The home the family lived in had no running water, outhouses for bathrooms, electricity only from a generator that runs during the day and everyone slept in one room. The family said they chose to live that way because they feel it is better for the environment.
Timeline-
A week prior to his disappearance Stephen Kerr called a crisis hotline stating that his son was unmanageable. Kerr stated that he and his wife wanted to reverse the adoption. He stated that Jaliek had threatened another child in his homeschool group, and that his wife was now afraid of Jaliek and no longer wanted him in their home. The crisis worker informed Kerr that reversing the adoption was not an option. The worker suggested respite care. Jaliek was sent to the home of Elaine and Tom Person, licensed foster parents. The couple had provided respite care for Jaliek in the past. Jaliek was at their home until November 1st, 2007 when he was returned to his adoptive father- Stephen Kerr. Kerr planned to take Jaliek to another respite home the following day- November 2nd, 2007. November 2nd, 2007 was the day that Jaliek was reported missing to police. After he was reported missing an extensive search took place. The police were unable to find anything to help them locate Jaliek. Within just a few days of his disappearance police announced that Jaliek could have met with foul play. They said that because they say the likelihood of a child his age surviving on their own was highly unlikely. They also say the possibilities that he committed suicide or ran away have not been ruled out.
Jocelyn has taken a polygraph in relation to Jaliek’s disappearance, but Stephen has refused to take one. Their theories on what happened to Jaliek range from him simply running away, to living with an African American family or Gang. They think that because they say Jaliek considered himself black rather than bi-racial, and that he had previously stated that he wanted to live with an African American family. In January 2008 Stephen Kerr was named a person of interest in Jaliek’s disappearance. Police stated that they have surveillance footage of Kerr driving his van around Greenwich well past midnight on the night of Jaliek’s disappearance. Stephen Kerr had previously told the police that he was asleep at that time. Cell phone records also corroborate that Kerr took a different route home than to the one he told the police he had taken. Investigators appealed to the public for information on Stephen Kerr’s whereabouts on the dates of: November 1st, 2007 - November 2nd, 2007. In February of 2008 the police executed a search warrant on the adoptive parents’ home. They took a computer in hopes of proving that it was used to write the letter Jaliek left. They were unable to prove their theory. The couple later sued the police department, claiming they had been illegally detained and that the search was improper. At one point Jaliek’s adoptive maternal grandmother, Barbara Reeley broke into Kerr and McDonald’s home to look for anything that could provide a clue as to where Jaliek is. She was later charged with burglary and has plead not guilty to the offense. Shortly after she broke in the police went to the home and removed an item for testing. It later came out that the item was the yellow fleece jacket that Jaliek was supposedly wearing on the night of his disappearance.
At this point the police have little to no evidence to help explain what happened to Jaliek. As of now no one has been charged in connection to his disappearance.
It is with the heaviest heart that I can say her remains have been formally identified (03/30/21).
I will keep her information here to keep everyone updated as the case progresses through the legal system.

At no point in the security footage from 4:12 p.m. until the police arrive after they are called by Trezell, has anyone seen coming or going in the front or backyards. Trezell is the only one that left the home to go search for the children. Trezell is seen getting into the passenger side of the family vehicle at 4:32 p.m., he flips around and takes the first right to go look for the boys. He has gone for approximately 6 minutes.
4:39 p.m.: Trezell calls the police. Trezell waits outside for approximately 13 minutes for the police to arrive. He does not search any further before the police arrive. When he does go back out to look when the police get there he does the exact same thing as he did before: flips around and takes a right.
later that evening the California City Police Department sends out a press release about the boys in which they update later with pictures and names.
Throughout the night volunteers and police search areas close by to where the boys were " last seen". Police bring in K9 units to aid in the search. The k9s we're only able to find the boys' scent inside of the home and not outside of the home.

Vanessa Morales is a (now) two year old little girl who went missing on December 02, 2019. She was discovered missing after local authorities found her mother murdered in their home in Ansonia, Connecticut. The address at the murder scene was located at 6 ½ Myrtle Ave. She was last seen by family members on 11/29/2019.
Jose Morales (Prime Suspect) Has a violent criminal that includes pinning an ex-girlfriend to the ground and threatening to “break all of her bones” at the ex-girlfriend’s mothers’ home in Meriden. According to court records and was put on probation for that.
On June 24th, 2012, Meriden police received a 911 call from the victim’s mother saying her daughter’s boyfriend was high on PCP and acting strange, according to an arrest report. The woman said Morales and her daughter came home around 1:30 a.m. and a short time later she heard a thump.
The woman said as she went to investigate, she heard her daughter yell “knock it off, you’re freaking me out,” according to the report. She opened the bedroom door slightly and saw “Jose holding her daughter down on the floor.” The woman told police she heard Morales say, “I’m going to break all your bones.”
When police arrived, they found Morales lying naked on the bed and unable to answer questions, the report said. His girlfriend, who also admitted to being on PCP, denied anything had happened, but she did admit that she had a protective order against Morales because “they had gotten into a fight while on PCP,” according to the report.
Morales was charged with violating a protective order and disorderly conduct. He pleaded no contest to the charges and two months later received a three-year prison sentence that was suspended and two years of probation, court records show.
Morales was on probation less than two months when he was arrested again in October 2012 after another altercation with the same woman. A West Haven police officer was patrolling on Campbell Avenue on the evening of October 1st, 2012 and saw Morales and two women — one with a child in a stroller — walking south when Morales reached out and “maliciously grabbed one of the females’ arms,” according to an arrest affidavit filed by Probation Officer Robert Archibald.
“The victim was frantically trying to break free,” he wrote.
The woman got away but Morales ran in front of her and grabbed her again, according to the affidavit. The West Haven officer told Morales to get his hands off the woman. Morales yelled at the officer, “I did nothing wrong, I’m just talking to my girlfriend,” according to the affidavit.
Morales was charged with breach of peace by West Haven police but Archibald had him charged with violating his probation because the woman he was arguing with was the same one from the Meriden case only months earlier. Morales once again got a three-year sentence, only this time he served nine months in prison and was given two years’ probation, court records show.
Morales was also charged with tampering with evidence and the murder of Christine Holloway who was at that time a daycare teacher in Bridgeport. Morales was detained on a $5 million bond pending a February 18th, 2020 appearance in state superior court in Milford. He was represented by Norm Pattis and Kevin Smith.
Just before 1:00 P.M. on December 2nd, 2019, A Bright Morning Star Daycare employee in Bridgeport called the PD and requested a welfare check on Holloway. According to the warrant, the employee explained that Holloway had failed to return to work and could not be reached by phone. An officer went to Holloways home at 6 ½ Myrtle Avenue. Since the officer got no response, he left.
After the police department received another welfare check request from a concerned relative, roughly 7 hours later. The police forced their way inside the house and discovered Holloway’s body. According to the police, Holloway died from blunt force trauma, but the New Haven County and the state Medical examiner’s office have not released additional information. The police almost immediately began to suspect the boyfriend (Morales). They brought Jose Morales in for questioning on December 3rd, 2019. The detective noticed a round, dark colored bruise on the right side of Morales’s chest. There were abrasions on the knuckles of both hands and scratches on both arms according to the arrest affidavit. The police also noticed that his stories – particularly about where he was that weekend and his relationship with Holloway, were inconsistent.
According to Holloway’s family, Jose Morales would stay with Holloway from Friday afternoons until Monday mornings. Morales’s mother, Lydia DeJesus and Stepfather, Marcos Garcia also said that he was with Holloway that weekend, this was also noted on the affidavit/warrant.
Key evidence, described in the warrant, was obtained from surveillance cameras and cellphones. One camera supported a neighbor’s claim he had seen Morales leave the house just a half hour after the first police check on December 2nd, 2019.
According to the warrant, other surveillance cameras captured his car on December 1st, 2019 near the Kiducation donation clothing bin in the St. Michael’s Church parking lot in Derby. Several bloodstained items including a children’s book, a children’s wooden puzzle and a men’s 3XL T-shirt, as well as personal papers belonging to Holloway were recovered when clothing from the bin was being sorted in Hamden.
Police said the stains tested positive for blood and were consistent with Holloway’s DNA.
Just after 2:00 p.m. on Friday December 6th, Morales, appeared before Superior Court Judge Peter McShane in Derby. Mr. Smith his attorney was present.
Smith suggested the court accept the bail commissioner’s $2 million recommendation since his client has been unable to post the $250,000 bail needed to secure his release on two charges of being a convicted felon in possession of stun guns. Those guns were found in his bedroom during a December 3rd, 2019 search of his First Avenue home in New Haven as part of the Holloway case. He will be back in state Superior Court in New Haven on those charges February 26th, 2020
The judge sided with Supervisory State’s Attorney Rebecca Berry, who asked that a $5 million bond be set. McShane then transferred the murder case to state Superior Court in Milford, where more serious felony cases are heard. He scheduled Morales’ appearance there for February 18th, 2020.
Holloway’s family and Morales’ families were in the courtroom for the 10-minute proceeding.
The 43-year-old Morales has a criminal record dating to 1993 which includes sale of narcotics, violation of protective orders, carrying a pistol without a permit and domestic violence. Prior arrest reports and court documents obtained by Hearst Connecticut Media indicate that he has used the mind-altering drug PCP, or angel dust, in the past.
Information in this arrest warrant suggests PCP may have been a factor in this case. During a December 16th, 2019 interview, a friend from East Haven told FBI Special Agent, David Dillon and Ansonia Police Detective, Stephen Adcox that he and Morales bought seven bags of PCP in Bridgeport on November 29th2019. He said they smoked half a bag and Morales left with two bags. Morales claimed he was in Holloway’s home when he saw men running toward the front door. He claimed he was feeling the effects of PCP when he tried to call 911 but was punched in the face and knocked out.
Several neighbors claim they saw Morales at the Myrtle Avenue home, a former carriage house, that weekend, the warrant said.
DNA testing on the interior collar of a black Haines T-shirt recovered by investigators includes genetic material consistent with Holloway, Morales and “an unknown third individual,” according to the arrest warrant.
The owner of the home and his mother said they were in the attached three-car garage on December 1st, 2019 and heard a commotion upstairs, the warrant said. The owner said she heard three sounds “like they were hammering something into the wall.” She also said she heard sounds like furniture being moved around.
Another man visiting a neighbor told police he saw Morales at the house that same afternoon, according to the warrant.
Vanessa was last seen by relatives by November 29th, 2019. The Ansonia police are treating Vanessa Morales’s disappearance as an active investigation. Since the authorities have not found her grayco car seat, teething ring, an Eddie Bauer backpack and a multi-colored comforter they believe that she may still be alive.
Police issued an amber alert for Vanessa on Wednesday. On a Wednesday in January 2020, around 8:00 PM, the Police received a report that there was a possible sighting of Vanessa Morales at Bridgeport Hospital. The Detectives who are on the case responded to the hospital and reviewed the surveillance video that captured a female child resembling Vanessa. The Police were later able to verify that the girl was not Vanessa Morales.

Medical conditions and brief background:
Serenity was given up for adoption because her bio parents were unstable. Unfortunately, for the first four years of little Serenity's life she was placed in one foster home after the next. More than a dozen in total. As a result of her being placed in foster care she developed Reactive Attachment Disorder (R.A.D)- children do not feel secure in familial relationships and can act out as a result. She was also diagnosed with Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (D.M.D.D)- a condition that is marked by mood swings. As a result of her conditions and increased worsening behavior and running away she was referred to the Black Hills Children's Home. She was placed in the home in July 2018, admissions usually last for 14 months.
Circumstances of disappearance:
Serenity and five other children were playing in the gym of the Black hills children's home just before 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 3rd, 2019. Staff are distracted by another child running out of the gym into the main building. Serenity then runs away from the remaining staff member. The remaining staff member did not run after serenity because there were still other children remaining in the gym and protocol prohibited leaving children unattended. The staff member does call for help from other staff members using a radio. Unfortunately all of their radios were on multiple different channels. Serenity is believed to have run north, due to witness sightings from a woman and her granddaughter who were dropping off a child at the main office which is located by the northern entrance. they were just starting to drive away when they noticed serenity running away- alone. The grandmother reverses down the drive and head to the main building where they let a staff member, a cook with a radio, know about the run away child. the granddaughter stays in the car and keeps an eye on serenity. The pair observes Serenity stumble on a cattle guard just before she reached the main road- Rockerville Road. The granddaughter watches as serenity walks approximately 50 yards and she can no longer see her. that was the last known time that anyone ever saw serenity- who has been missing ever since. It was only 3 to 4 minutes after the granddaughter lost out of Serenity that she and her grandmother drove out of the children's home, onto Rockerville Road to look for her. They drive up and down Rockerville Road multiple times and do not see Serenity anywhere nor do they see anyone else either walking or driving. They are joined shortly by staff both on foot and in vehicles looking for the missing girl. They have no luck finding serenity, after 1 hour 20 minutes (80 minutes) they finally call the authorities.
More details:
At the time of her disappearance there were 15 15 staff members and 37 children at the Black Hill's Children's Home. Right away (after being notified) there were four staff members searching for the missing girl. They were later joined by a fifth staff member who was the on call supervisor. The on-call supervisor was contacted while at home and advised present staff to search for 15 minutes more before calling 911. When the on-call supervisor arrived some 80 minutes later, 911 still had not been called. and the supervisor then proceeded to call 911 to alert the authorities of Serenity's disappearance. that evening an intense search and investigation began. A mobile post command also arrived at the scene, as well as searchers with dogs and detectives. The first night detectives and deputies scoured the area including going door-to-door to the, approximately, 40 houses in the area. They were asking if anyone had seen serenity and were gauging the responses they received. Serenity was also immediately reported to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Unfortunately on the evening of the first night of her disappearance the search had to be called off due to a storm, the temperature was 5° f.
The search resumed at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4th.
On Tuesday, February 5th the sheriff's office issued a statement: "If Serenity was outside it is unlikely she survived. We have not ruled out the possibility that she found someplace warm to shelter or that someone picked her up. We still have an active investigation and will follow up on all leads."
On Wednesday February 6th the sheriff requested special dog teams from Iowa, Wyoming and Colorado. The dogs were cadaver dogs, they find it hard to detect scent in frigid conditions.
The sheriff's office even consulted a pediatrician that said based on Serenity's age size and the weather is possible that she walked 3 to 4 miles, presenting a huge search area for authorities. due to the vastly varying surrounding area including Forest roads and trails, granite outcroppings, caves, ponds, lakes and burnt trees from the Battle Creek Fire in 2002, it makes the search for serenity even more complicated.
Sadly, despite 1'200 people searching more than 4'500 miles on foot of woodland, investigators tracing down 220 leads, 465 interviews, 65 agencies using scent and cadaver dogs, aircraft and thermal imaging Serenity remains missing to this day.
One week prior to her disappearance, Serenity had once again tried to escape. She had a history of running away just to watch people search for her, according to her father. The incident prior to her disappearance landed her on "arms length monitoring". For reasons that have yet to be explained she was taken off the monitoring just the day before her disappearance. The investigation into her disappearance is the most extensive and Pennington County history. They have not been able to rule out any scenario, although Deputy Hartland and Sheriff Kevin Thom say it is highly unlikely she was taken by a stranger or someone just driving by. They say that because of the road she was on was traveled, nearly exclusively by locals in the winter, and it was Super Bowl Sunday. Serenity's family are all still in shock that she hasn't been found yet. Her bedroom is still all set up at her mother's house just the way she left it waiting for her to come home.
Happenings since Serenity vanished:
Black Hills Children's Home, run by the non-profit: The Children's Home Society, was cited by state and federal regulators for waiting more than 80 minutes to call authorities, having their radios on too many channels and for the lack of planning, training and education and runaway prevention. Two people with direct physical oversight of Serenity at the time of her going missing were fired after she ran away. But, the on-call supervisor who advised other stuff to look longer before calling 911, and the director of the home are still employed at the facility. Even though they have new protocols put in place at their Black Hill's facility, those methods have not been completely adopted at their Sioux Falls facility. As of January 2020 security cameras and doors were planned but not yet installed at the Black Hills Home. Similar measures are proposed for the Sioux Falls Home but won't be purchased and installed until the home receives a grant. Serenity's parents have been the victims of ludicrous claims, rumors and conspiracy theories and relation to her going missing. Her mother, Darcie, has even been accused of being involved in her disappearance even though she was at work. Investigators do not suspect any of her parents. Her father, chad, has had random people take pictures of his other children playing outside their home, and he has been accused of giving his daughter a phone in order to help her plan her escape.
Serenity was a beautiful little girl that, despite her struggles, was a highly intelligent person. She loved animals, playing with babies, watching movies, singing along to music, riding her bike and spending her time with her grandma.

Circumstances of his disappearance:
Douglas was last seen on June 2nd, 1971 in Alfred, Maine. He was last seen playing in a sandbox that was located about 25 yards away from his house at about 10:30 a.m. Douglas lived in a mobile home on Alfred Gore Road. His mom had just ran inside to take a quick phone call, and by the time she was finished and went to check on him he had already vanished. He was never seen nor heard from again.
As with many missing children's cases, investigators initially thought that the boy had just wandered away from home and gotten lost. The area around his home was rural, wooded, bushy and swampy. Unfortunately after extensive searches over several days the searches turned up no trace of Douglas. Quickly authorities began to doubt that Douglas had simply just wandered away. Police were eventually able to utilize tracking dogs and helicopters. The dogs tracked the boys scent through a field, past an apple orchard, to a farm and down the driveway to the main road. Douglas's father believes that, at this point, his son was put into a vehicle and kidnapped. His mother also found it odd that the family dog did not bark when Douglas went missing. Sadly, his father believes that the little boy was abducted and killed by a predator whom lived in the area at the time. Unfortunately the person has since passed away, and as such was never charged with involvement in the case.
At the time of his disappearance Douglas's father was an auxiliary Police Officer. In 1993 he requested that his son's case be re-opened. It eventually was. His parents have since divorced. His mother moved to New York and his father moved to Waterboro in Maine. Investigators have stated that no one in the family is a suspect, as they were all cleared in the original investigation into the case.
Other happenings in the case:
Back on September 1st, 2007 a man, named Eric Waite wrote a post on Facebook that stated, "I really need a good attorney. I believe that I was kidnapped and trafficked back in 1971. And I am not sure who to contact next about this, the state police will not return my phone calls, come to find out my real father is a state police officer." (Content edited for clarity)
He continues on for several more comments explaining why he thinks he is Douglas.
He also states, "I have asked the woman claiming to be my mother to do a DNA test. She told me that I couldn't make her do it. She sold the family property and moved to Florida. What else do we need to do here? How can I subpoena these people and make them do real DNA tests in a controlled environment with witnesses?"
(Content edited for clarity)
The most recent update for the case states that the mother has done a DNA test, in cooperation with law enforcement, and Mr. Waite is in-fact not Douglas. Mr. Waite claimed it was a scam and wanted her to take another test- she declined. It seems as though Mr. Waite is still fighting this and it has been drug on for years. The FBI has even stepped in, in an effort to cull Mr. Waite's nonsensical behavior.
